Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda takes a classic Roddenberry concept -- a man finds himself thrust into a future where the world he had known is gone -- and updates it with a dose of some serious attention to science. Kevin Sorbo stars as Captan Dylan Hunt. Be sure to check out Sf-Worlds' Andromeda page.
James Cameron's Dark Angel explores the near future after a group of genetically enhanced warrior children have escaped from the facility where they were bred. In this dark and Spartan future terrorists have reduced the United States to the status of a third world nation by wiping out most of its private wealth with a nuclear explosion high above the country. The resulting chaos creates the perfect world where Max (Jessica Alba) can blend in with multitudes of people looking to rebuild their lives in a society where capitalism has failed but struggles to revive itself.
Farscape tells the story of astronaut John Crichton, who as the result of a freak accident is propelled to a distant part of space where he becomes involved with a group of escaped prisoners (Ka D'Argo, Rygel XVI, Zha'an), their intelligent living ship, Moya, and its pilot, and Aeryn Sun, a Peacekeeper who has been condemned by her people because she was "contaminated" through contact with Crichton and his companions. Some of the crew want to go home, but for others there is no going back. Xenite.Org and SF-FANDOM operate the Web's oldest fan-run Farscape forum.
The Queen of Swords stars 21-year-old Cuban-American actress Tessie Santiago as Tessa Alvarado. The show's lead character cannot avoid being compared to Zorro, since she is a Spanish aristocrat who fights evil and injustice. But neither can she avoid being compared to Xena. Tessa Alvarado, as the Queen of Swords, however, is more a cross between Batgirl and Zorro. Sleak, sexy, mysterious, and innocent yet hard as nails.
Roswell tells the story of four teenagers whose alien parents have left them near Roswell, New Mexico. The teens (Max Evans, played by Jason Behr, Isabel Evans, played by Katherine Heigl, Michael Guerin, played by Brendan Fehr, and Tess, played by Majandra Delfino) are the "Royal Four", rightful leaders of a distant world. They were murdered by a usurper, but their supporters saved enough of their genetic material to generate new bodies for them. Now the aliens have to deal with life on Earth and wait for their enemies to move against them.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World is a modern retelling of the classic Conan Doyle story about an expedition which seeks out a forgotten plateau where dinosaurs still live. Peter McCauley proves to be a very capable Professor George Challenger. Alas, in a move borne of stupidity, the show dropped its other most important character, Professor Arthur Summerlee (played by Michael Sinelnikoff) in favor of showing more skin from actresses Jennifer O'Dell (Veronica) and Rachel Blakely (Marguerite Krux). Xenite.Org operates the Web's oldest fan-run Lost World forum. Discussions about the book and movie adaptations are welcome.
Stargate-SG1 picks up where the "Stargate" movie leaves off, with Earth in possession of a stargate but little knowledge of what lies beyond it. Colonel Jack O'Neill is reunited with Dr. Daniel Jackson when the Goa'uld, the parasitic race from which Ra (the villain in the movie) is supposed to come, threaten Earth. Captain Samantha Carter (later promoted to Major) joins the SG-1 team, which is rounded out by Teal'c, a renegade Jaffa warrior who had long wished to be rid of his masters. The Stargate Command explores the cosmos through the stargate, making new friends and allies and occasionally new enemies. Check out Xenite.Org and SF-FANDOM's popular Stargate Forum.
